There are always projects to complete at El Palmar and some more enjoyable than others. Last year we competed the solar water heating system, see the video here. It sounded like a fine idea when I began but it did take a bit longer than I anticipated! But the project is done and the Melaque sunshine is serving us and our guests well, we have an endless supply of hot water at virtually no cost to us or the environment.
This year I told myself I was going to make some ceramic top tables. I mean really, I bought the tiles 3 years ago while on a road trip that included Dolores Hidalgo, a town famous for its ceramics. Better late than never. Frankly I'm amazed I even remembered I had the tiles after all this time. I saw it as a project for the future. So, the future is now and we ended up with four new tables.
The important thing to remember is that the tiles are heavy so you'll want to start with a strong base. You can buy good quality tables at one of the many places along the highway as you enter Melaque, then it's just a matter of letting your artistic nature shine to create the pattern. It's a little bit of a messy job but not difficult and once you put that layer of grout over the top the pattern really jumps out and you wonder why you waited to some to complete the project!
Here's a video of the process.
