The Dance for the Children Raises $3500 for Mixteca Kids

Thanks to our fiends and supporters, The Dance for the Children, held August 16th in Victoria, was a wonderful event and a great success. The final tally isn't in yet, but at last count about $3500 was raised. That's about 4 x more than we were aiming for!  Rosa and I feel so blessed and thank everyone for their support in this important project.

Here is a short video about the albergue (or refuge) created by Dr. Rosa with the support of our friends and volunteers.

About the Project

Each winter season indigenous Mixteca families travel to the coast looking for work on the surrounding ranches.  Living conditions are very basic, the families have no access to medical care, the children work in the fields and do not attend school.  Dr. Rosa and her group of volunteers, are making a positive change in the lives of these families. In the six years since the project began the group was able to raise funds to build housing for 18 families, school rooms, and a medical clinic.  The children, after a day of work in the fields, return and receive their only hot meal of the day. They then attend school with teachers and materials  provided by"Asistencia a la familia de Cihuatlan".

There is a small medical clinic onsite and due to

Dr. Rosa's dedication and passion the clinic is able to provide free medical care.  She regularly convinces medical representatives and fellow Doctors to leave extra samples, petitions the Mexican government for funds, and through her husband's hotel, El Palmar Beach & Tennis Resort, she solicits supplies and funds from international guests to support the mission of improving the lives of the indigenous workers though education and access to medical care.

Thanks again!  You are making a real difference in the lives of these Mixteca families. We hope to see you this winter at El Palmar Beach & Tennis Resort in Melaque.
